Although I understand that this is a worrying time for you I want to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to ensure that our residents and staff remain as safe as possible.
In recent days the national news has been dominated by headlines pertaining to the availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) within care homes and whilst we have experienced significant challenges, we have nevertheless been able to source adequate levels from suppliers and with the wonderful support of the local community. This is enabling us to protect our staff teams in accordance with current Government guidance.
At this time, we are fortunate to have no suspected or confirmed cases of Covid-19 within any of our homes and are continuing to exert stringent controls to limit admission to our homes other than for essential visitors. Whilst we are yet to have access to Covid-19 tests for staff and residents, it is hoped that this will become more widely available over the coming weeks.
At Swallowcourt we have always recognised the commitment and dedication of our frontline nurses, carers and ancillary staff. It is with immense pride that I convey to you, in these difficult times, the unwavering efforts and devotion of staff members across the group who are providing the highest level of compassionate care and support. As an employer we are working tirelessly to support our teams to continue to do so. We have also been heartened by the support of the local communities in which we work for generous donations of PPE, flowers, Easter Eggs and toiletries that have provided heart-warming comfort for both residents and staff.
I understand that maintaining communication with your loved ones is especially important at this time and also accept that there may be occasions in which our response to telephone calls and availability of video calling may be frustrating. Today, I am delighted to share with you the news that Swallowcourt will be taking part in the NHSX Facebook Pilot. This will provide an additional portal within all our homes for making video calls through Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. We hope to take delivery of the new devices in the next week or so and I will let you know how calls can be arranged as soon as I am in a position to do so.
We continue to share updates and highlights of the work being undertaken within our homes on the Swallowcourt Facebook page.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your continued support and hope that in this challenging time yourself and your families remain safe and well.
