What began as a week of high-spirited competition at Poldhu Care Home grew into a celebration of community and connection, as residents and local schoolchildren came together for games, laughter and stories.
The week kicked off with the much-anticipated Poldhu Derby, a lively horse-racing game that had residents winding strings to race model horses to the finish line. The event delivered plenty of cheering, friendly rivalry and joyful moments as residents demonstrated great coordination and competitive spirit.
The excitement continued when pupils and staff from Mullion Primary School visited the home. The children spent time reading to residents, sharing favourite stories including Tiddler and A Secret Worth Sharing. Staff and residents described the visit as “incredibly heartwarming,” with smiles and conversations bridging generations and reminding everyone of the simple power of a shared book.
“We loved every minute. The Derby had everyone laughing, and the visit from Mullion Primary brought so much warmth and energy to Poldhu,” said Interim home manager Katie Bragg. “Events like these are at the heart of our commitment to active, engaged living and strong community ties.”
Poldhu Care Home is currently welcoming new residents and offers flexible options for short day visits as well as long-term stays. For more information about admissions, availability or to arrange a visit, contact Poldhu Care Home.
Poldhu Care Home thanks the students and staff of Mullion Primary School for their time and enthusiasm, and looks forward to future visits that continue to build intergenerational connections.
